Guide 02 · Staying safe

A practical Muslim matrimony
safety checklist.

No badge, app or family introduction removes all risk. Safer matrimony begins with controlled disclosure, independent verification and the confidence to slow down or stop.

Online matrimony can introduce people who would not otherwise meet, but a sincere purpose does not guarantee sincere behaviour from every participant. Use platform tools as one layer of protection and keep your own judgment active throughout the process.

Keep early conversations inside the app

In-app messaging gives you access to blocking, reporting and a record of the interaction. Moving immediately to personal calls or messaging apps exposes your number and can make enforcement harder. Take time to understand basic compatibility before sharing direct contact details.

Limit identifying information

Avoid placing your precise address, workplace location, daily routine, financial account information or identity documents in a public profile. Be careful with images that reveal a home, vehicle registration, workplace badge or a child’s information.

Use photo-visibility controls where available. If someone reacts aggressively to a reasonable privacy boundary, treat that reaction as useful information.

Understand verification limits

A verified email or phone confirms control of that contact method. A photo check may increase confidence that the person resembles a profile photo. These checks do not confirm every claim about age, marital history, family, employment, income, education or intentions.

Verify important claims independently.

Do so respectfully, proportionately and through lawful means. Never demand passwords, OTP codes, banking access or unnecessary identity-document copies.

Recognise pressure patterns early

Slow down when someone:

One inconsistency may have an innocent explanation. A pattern of evasion and pressure deserves a stronger response.

Involve someone you trust

A parent, wali, sibling, friend or trusted adviser can notice details that are easy to miss when emotions are involved. Family involvement should support an adult’s voluntary decision, not replace consent or create coercive pressure.

Plan meetings carefully

For an initial meeting, choose a public place, arrange your own transport and tell a trusted person where you will be. Keep your phone charged and avoid becoming dependent on the other person for travel. Local culture and circumstances differ, so choose safeguards appropriate to your situation.

Use block and report for different purposes

Block when you want contact and discovery to stop. Report when the platform should review conduct such as harassment, impersonation, threats, suspected fraud or prohibited content. For urgent danger, contact local emergency services or an appropriate specialist service first; an app is not an emergency responder.

Protect payment and account security

Purchase digital subscriptions through the official app-store flow. Never share an OTP, password or recovery code with another member or with someone claiming to be support. Legitimate support should not ask for your password or payment credentials.

Leave when the boundary is crossed

You do not owe continued access, explanation or debate to someone who harasses, threatens or repeatedly ignores a boundary. Preserve relevant evidence when safe, use platform controls and seek appropriate support. Safety is more important than politeness.

Silarah safety controls

Silarah provides photo privacy options, private in-app chat, blocking, reporting, discovery pause and published enforcement standards. Read the Safety Centre and Community Guidelines. These controls reduce risk but cannot eliminate it.
